Ace Africa Board members visit to Southend Academy in Bungoma on a fact finding mission in 2017. Some of the children in the school are orphans under Ace Africa support.
Orphans and Vulnerable Children
There are an estimated 2.6 million Orphans and Vulnerable Children (OVC) in Kenya, of whom 650,000 are orphaned by AIDS. Heaviest concentrations of both vulnerable children and children orphaned by AIDS lie in the age segment of 10-14 years old. Orphans are also at greater risk of malnourishment, stunted growth, while some were infected with HIV at birth. They lack basic necessities such as shelter, food, clothing, health and education. The eldest child usually assumes early parental role. Ace Africa implements interventions with communities and partners to ensure orphan and vulnerable children remain: AIDS free, healthy, safe, stable and skilled.
